On Criminal Justice Reform

Steven Hawkins, Beloit’s 2017-18 Weissberg Chair, made a special appearance in Washington, D.C., in July at Solid State Books, a bookstore owned by Scott Abel’02.

The social justice leader and litigator has devoted his career to finding ways to change the U.S. criminal justice system, which disproportionately targets minorities and people who are economically disadvantaged.

Hawkins was joined by three Beloit faculty members for a panel presentation: Manger Professor of International Relations Beth Dougherty, Assistant Professor of Political Science Phil Chen, and Professor of Psychology Larry White, for a discussion about criminal justice reform. The event was hosted by Scott Abel’02 and Weissberg program founders Marvin Weissberg and Nina Weissberg’84, a college trustee, and sponsored by the Weissberg Foundation.
